Consumer confidence in British Columbia remained steady in May 2009 compared to the previous month, according to the Conference Board of Canada’s index of consumer confidence.  Confidence is well above depths plumbed toward the end of 2008, and stands just shy of pre-recession levels in September last year.

Sentiment about making major purchases, such as a home or a car, softened slightly in May after having improved significantly in each of the previous four months.  In May 2009, the balance of sentiment about making major purchases stayed in negative territory, but was more upbeat than it was in almost every month since March 2008.
